The Backyardigans Dreidel

Transform a simple square box into a festive surprise for a lucky little Backyardigans fan.

Materials

• Cube-shaped gift box
• Heavy cardstock or light cardboard
• Scissors or craft knife
• Clear packing tape
• Wrapping paper in pale blue or turquoise
• Blue pipe cleaners
• Craft glue or glue stick
• Printable dreidel decorations and Hebrew letters
• Blue construction paper
• 6-in. dowel
• Blue paint

Directions

1. Step 1

   From the cardstock or cardboard, cut out a square that is 1 inch wider than the bottom of the gift box. Cut an "X" in this square. You will end up with four triangles. With the clear adhesive tape, center and secure one triangle to each side of the box. As you will see, the base of the triangles is slightly wider for the sides of the the box. Simply trim the extra with scissors. Then, bend the triangles inward so that they form a point. Use the tape to secure the sides, and don't worry if there are slight gaps. These will be covered with the wrapping paper you use in the next step.

2. Step 2

   Wrap the dreidel with the wrapping paper, gluing it in place with craft glue or a glue stick.

3. Step 3

   Snip and glue pieces of pipe cleaners along the edges of the box and points.

4. Step 4

   Print and cut out the Backyardigans dreidel decorative pieces. Glue to the four sides of the dreidel.

5. Step 5

   Remove the lid and slip a small toy or treat inside the box. Cut a hole into the center of the lid.

6. Step 6

   Paint the dowel blue. Slip it through the hole in the lid. Put the lid back on the dreidel.
