Bubble Guppies Solar System Mobile

The Bubble Guppies are out of this world in The Moon Rocks episode, where they take a trip to learn about their planets. Your kids don't have to leave planet Earth to have fun, they can have a BLAST making this educational decoration!

Materials

• Planet ornaments
• Scissors
• Glue stick and tape
• Hole punch
• Mobile top options: paper plate or cardboard
• Several yards of yarn, string, or ribbon

Directions

1. Create the ornaments

   Print out planet ornaments on heavy-weight paper. Fold along the solid line, and glue the front and back of each image together to create double-sided ornaments. Then help kids cut out the images. When dry, punch a hole at the top of the ornaments where indicated.

2. Make a mobile top

   To make a top for the mobile out of cardboard, trace a circle onto the cardboard (try tracing a pot lid or a plate), and cut the cardboard along the trace lines.<br><br> You can also make a mobile top out of a paper plate. To add more flair to the mobile, help your child paint or color the paper plate. Punch holes around the paper plate using a nail or scissors (an adult should do this part), keeping in mind that each hole will represent where each ornament will hang. Punch a hole in the center to represent the sun, then punch four holes around the center hole to represent the inner planets, and four holes closer to the outside edge of the plate to represent the outer planets. Refer to the planet chart before hanging the ornaments.

3. Attach the ornaments

   Cut ten strands of yarn, ribbon, or string at various lengths.<br><br> Thread each strand through the ornaments and tie a knot. Then lace the other end of each strand through the holes created in the paper plate or cardboard. Tie a knot and secure it to the top side of the paper plate using tape.

4. Hang it up!

   Tape four strands of equal lengths, to the edge of the plate (two vertical and two horizontal, at opposite ends). Tie the four strands together then tie them to a longer strand. Then create a loop at the end of the longer strand from which the mobile will hang.<br><br> The mobile is complete! Hang it on the ceiling or a light fixture. It's a great decoration, but most of all, it's a learning tool to help kids remember the planets!
