Go, Diego, Go! Felt Wallet

Felt is all you need to make this easy wallet for your little rescuer. Show him how to use it to save and spend play money, or his own money, and learn the word "budget" for real!

Materials

• Beige, dark blue, light blue, yellow, and green felt swatches
• Wallet Templates
• Scissors
• Fabric glue

Directions

1. Step 1

   Print the templates and cut out all the shapes.

2. Step 2

   From the brown felt swatch, cut out an 8 1/2- by 7-inch rectangle. Fold it lengthwise, glue the side edges together, and leave the top edges open. Let dry. Fold it widthwise. This is an early, basic form of your wallet.

3. Step 3

   Trace the ID holder shape onto brown felt and cut out the felt piece. Glue the felt ID holder onto the inner left wing of your wallet. Apply glue to only three sides--left, top, and bottom--of the ID holder frame. When you do that, it's important that you apply glue to only the outer edge of the three sides of the frame. The inner half-part of each side stripe should be glue-free and allow an ID card to slide through/in.

4. Step 4

   Trace the card holder shape onto brown felt and cut out the felt piece. As an alternative, you can cut out a 4- by 2 1/4-inch rectangular felt piece. Place it on the inner right wing of the wallet, its top edge in line with that of the ID holder. Glue only on the left, right, and bottom edges.

5. Step 5

   Make and glue another card holder (also over three edges) on top of the first one but shift it slightly lower than the first. If you want to add more card holders, distribute them evenly down the right side of the wallet.

6. Step 6

   Trace the badge shapes onto felt of the designated colors. Using the image reference on the templates, glue the felt shapes together and onto the wallet's front--the outside right wing of the wallet.
