Materials

  • Iron-on transfer paper
  • Dino Dan Iron-on Decals
  • Scissors
  • Iron
  • Heavy bath towel
  • T-shirt, vest, or other piece clothing
  • Ink-jet fabric sheets (OPTIONAL)
  • Fabric glue (OPTIONAL)
Tip: Be sure to check the label on the iron-on transfer paper box. Dark-colored T-shirts require iron-on transfer paper on which the image is placed faceup (non-reversed) and light colored fabrics usually require the image to be placed facedown on the fabric (reversed image).

Directions

  1. Step 1

Print either the reversed or non-reversed images from the Dino Dan Iron-on Templates depending on the type of your iron-on transfer paper. Print a test on regular paper first to make sure you've chosen the right design for the type of iron-on paper you have. Set the template aside for a few minutes to dry, and then cut out the image--cutting close to the colored edge of the image. Kids can definitely help with this part.

  2. Step 2

Preheat the iron and fold the towel into thirds on a countertop or other hard surface. To further protect your countertop, you may want to place a magazine or a large book under the towel. To achieve best results, however, don't use an ironing board.

  3. Step 3

If you printed the reversed image, place the cut-out facedown on the T-shirt, vest, or other piece of clothing. If you printed the non-reversed image, peel off its backing and place the image faceup on the garment. Cover with the protective sheet that comes with your transfer paper. Iron the Dino Dan image with a firm and steady pressure in a circular motion. Start at one corner and work your way slowly to the opposite corner, and then use the same technique for the other two corners. Finish by moving the iron in a circular motion around the entire area for about 10 to 15 seconds, applying steady pressure.

  4. Step 4

If you ironed the image facedown, start at one corner and slowly peel the backing away from the garment. If you ironed the image faceup, simply remove the protective sheet.

  5. Alternative: Do It Together!

Print the non-reversed image onto a sheet of fabric transfer paper. Carefully set the printable aside and allow it to dry for at least 10 minutes. When it's dry, your child can cut out the image, peel away the backing, and apply it directly to the garment using fabric glue.

Tip: Be sure the iron is hot and the surface you use is hard and flat.
