Developmental Skills

Ages: 3-6

Materials

  • Dark-colored construction paper
  • Pastas of various sizes (macaroni, penne, fusilli, gemelli, elbows, thick spaghetti)
  • Printable Triceratops Skeleton
  • Scissors
  • Crayons or colored pencils (optional)
  • Craft glue (such as Elmer's)

Directions

  1. Step 1

Print out the Dinosaur Triceratops Skeleton on regular white paper. Mom and Dad, you can help cut out the dinosaur along the dark outlines. Neatness doesn't count!

  2. Step 2

Paste the dinosaur to the construction paper. Press down and smooth out any uneven surfaces.

  3. Step 3

Little archeologists may want to color in the shapes of the same size with the same color crayon or pencil to help guide them when gluing. (This step is not essential, but it might help your dino lover to apply the same size pasta to the areas that feature the same color.)

  4. Step 4

After your child has colored in her dino, let her start applying the craft glue to one area at a time and placing the pasta on top. Try macaroni or penne for the thicker bones, but whatever pasta you have in the kitchen will work well. Press down firmly but gently on the pasta. It should dry in just a couple of minutes. Do one section at a time, to avoid getting too much glue on little hands.

  5. Step 5

Your dinosaur expert can experiment with pasta to her heart's content. This is free art, so anything goes. When she's done, add a title to the skeleton by cutting out the Triceratops label and pasting it on. Then, have the artist sign her masterpiece!

  6. Step 6

Get fancy. Add some pasta decorations and adornments to your dino digger's bone collage. We made a few trees, but kids' creative minds can conjure up a whole host of special backgrounds and flourishes. Post in a prominent place so everyone can admire this "pasta-saurus" created by your own kid.
