Dora Birthday Cake Craft

Try this take on recycling. Turn an old shoe box and tissue box into...an a-DORA-ble birthday cake! Simply paint and decorate with printable images of Dora's cake decorations.

Materials

• Adult-size shoe box
• Tissue boxes (long & short)
• Craft glue
• Acrylic paints (assorted colors)
• Paintbrushes
• Dora printable cake decorations
• Wide ribbons (OPTIONAL)

Directions

1. Step 1

   To make a three-tier birthday "cake," place a long tissue box (empty-side down) on top of a shoe box (empty-side down), and top it with a short tissue box. Glue on a piece of paper to cover up the "window" of the top tissue box. Note: It could be very time-consuming to paint and decorate a 3-tier "cake." Depending on your time, make it 1-tier or 2-tier instead.

2. Step 2

   Apply glue to the contact area, position the boxes, place a heavy book on top to bring the surfaces in close contact. Let dry.

3. Step 3

   Have your child paint the three-tier cake in her favorite color. Let dry.

4. Step 4

   Paint wavy shapes in white around the top perimeter of the boxes as cake icing. Paint the boxes' tops in white as well.

5. Step 5

   Print out Dora's cake decorations. Help your child cut out the various decorative pieces and glue to the cake. As an alternative, ask your little artist to paint her own style of flowers on the "cake." Cut out the candle template, roll it up vertically, and glue the tab to the other end. Glue the "candles" to the top of the box. Cut out the image of Dora & Boots, glue to a toothpick, and poke it through the top center of the box as the cake topper.

6. Step 6

   If desired, wrap around the boxes colorful wide ribbons to give it a perfect finish. Or have your child further decorate with more painting or gems.
