Dora's Papier Mache Egg Basket

A balloon, paper strips, and some glue makes for a cheery Easter egg basket!

Materials

• Newsprint or lightweight paper, torn into narrow strips
• Balloon
• Diluted craft glue (or ModPodge)
• Wide craft paint brush
• Craft knife (parents only)
• Pink glitter paint
• Fuzzy decorative trim
• Scissors
• Craft glue
• Wide decorative ribbon
• Cardstock or construction paper
• Printable Dora images
• Easter grass
• Easter eggs
• Decorative Dora stickers (OPTIONAL)

Directions

1. Step 1

   Blow up the balloon, stopping while it is still an oval shape. (As the balloon gets bigger, it gets rounder).

2. Step 2

   Tear newsprint in strips. Set out a small bowl of the slightly diluted craft glue or ModPodge.

3. Step 3

   Apply one strip at a time to the balloon, painting it lightly with glue. TIP: Use the glue very sparingly or your balloon will sag and shrink, and it will take too long to dry. Do this until the balloon is covered in 3 layers of paper. Set aside to dry overnight.

4. Step 4

   Once dry, prick the balloon with a pin. Then, using a craft knife, cut the papier mache shape in half, lengthwise. (Ths part is for parents only.) Set aside one half. Paint the other half, both inside and out. Let the papier mache basket dry.

5. Step 5

   Glue the fuzzy trim to the outer rim of the painted papier mache basket.

6. Step 6

   Cut a wide strip of cardstock to create a handle. Cut two pieces of wide decorative ribbon and glue them to the cardstock handle. Glue the handle INSIDE the egg. Let dry.

7. Step 7

   Print the Dora image on cardstock. If you don't have cardstock, glue construction paper to the back of image so that it can stand upright. Glue small decorative Dora stickers to the handle if desired.

8. Step 8

   Fill the basket with Easter grass and eggs. Insert the Dora cut-out. If you’re giving the basket away as a gift, inscribe the back of the Dora cut-out with a springtime message.
