Dora's Purple Planet Rocket Ship

Blast off to outer space with Dora and Boots in your own spaceship! To build the rocket ship, all you need are a paper cup, construction paper, and printable images of Dora and Boots!

Materials

• 1 paper cup
• Craft knife (PARENTS ONLY)
• Scissors
• Craft paints & paintbrush
• Red construction paper
• Ruler
• Craft glue
• Dora Rocket Ship Decorations
• String or cotton cord (OPTIONAL)
• Painter's tape (OPTIONAL)

Directions

1. Step 1 (PARENTS ONLY)

   Cut the bottom off of a paper cup with a craft knife. Mark four points in the direction of a cross on the cup's bottom circle. Make four identical short slits upward from where you marked.

2. Step 2

   Paint the bottom (no higher than 1/3 of the cup's height) of the paper cup in light blue. Then draw on dark blue lines along the cup's bottom. Note: Mix blue paint with white paint for a very light blue hue.

3. Step 3

   Cut out two trapezoids (a quadrilateral that has ONLY two parallel sides) from red construction paper. They should be slightly longer than the cup's width and slightly taller than the slits. Cut a slit in the middle of the two trapezoids, halfway through from the top and the other halfway from the bottom.

4. Step 4

   Slip the two trapezoids together along their slits. Then insert the four "wings" into the four slits on the cup.

5. Step 5

   Measure the diameter of your cup opening, add 1 inch to that number as the radius to draw a half circle on red construction paper. Cut it out. Roll it up to form a cone and glue or staple the edges together.

6. Step 6

   Apply glue to the rim of the cup and place the cone on top of the cup. Press it down to enforce a full contact. Let dry.

7. Step 7

   Now that the rocket ship has taken form, it's time to decorate it! Print and cut out Dora Rocket Ship Decorations. Glue the window art (with Dora and Boots in it) to the upper part of the cup. Glue the flame image to the bottom of the "rocket ship."

8. Step 8: Hang it Up! (OPTIONAL)

   If you prefer to hang up the rocket ship, before you glue the cone to the cup's top, thread a piece of string through the hole at the top of the cone. Secure the two ends to the ceiling with painter's tape.
