The Fresh Beat Band Dancing Shoes

Give your child's worn-down sneakers an extreme makeover--transform them into a pair of super-cool dancing shoes!

Materials

• Your child's old sneakers
• Acrylic paints & paintbrush
• Glitters
• Colorful gems, sequins, or foam stickers
• Ribbons with Fresh Beat Band hues, such as blue, orange, magenta, or yellow
• Fabric/Puffy paints (OPTIONAL)
• Tape

Directions

1. Step 1

   Cover a large table with brown packing or butcher paper to protect the surfaces. Your child should wear an art smock for the painting activity of this craft. Unlace the shoelaces, then have your child paint the sneakers in her favorite color.

2. Step 2

   While the paint is drying, sprinkle on glitter. Let dry.

3. Step 3

   Let your child be the art director and ask her what objects she'd like to "draw" on the shoes and then glue sequins or gems to the shoes to form the shape. Or use the sequins, gems of different colors/sizes to form a pattern. She can also free-draw with fabric/puffy paints.

4. Step 4

   Cut a piece of the ribbon at the length of the shoelace. Roll each end into a "stick," wrap it around with a small piece of tape. Thread the ribbon through all the grommets and make a bow tie in the front.
