The Fresh Beat Band Tambourine

Shake it! This nifty noise-maker comes together with everyday materials, many of which you probably have at home.

Materials

• Cardboard hat box or paper craft box lid
• White acrylic paint
• Paintbrush
• One large nail (parents only)
• 6 large buttons in aqua, orange, pink, peacock blue, green, pink and yellow
• 6 large jingle bells
• Aqua and orange lanyard cord
• Fresh Beat Band Stickers
• Glue stick
• Scraps of colorful paper
• Hole punch

Directions

1. Step 1

   Paint the lid of the box, inside and out. Let dry.

2. Step 2

   Parents only: Make 12 holes around the circumference of the lid with a nail (or a barbecue skewer).

3. Step 3

   Snip three short pieces of orange and three short pieces of aqua lanyard cord. Thread one piece of cord through a button, then pass its ends through a hole on the lid's circumference. To secure, tie the ends of the cord in a knot inside the tambourine. Repeat with remaining buttons, adding them to every second hole along the lid's edge.

4. Step 4

   Snip six more pieces of lanyard cord. Pass one piece through the eye of a jingle bell and then thread the ends through a hole in the lid; tie the ends in a knot inside the tambourine. Repeat with the remaining bells, adding one to each of the remaining holes on the lid.

5. Step 5

   Print the logo on sticker paper and cut it out. Apply it to the center of the tambourine. You may also print on regular paper and use a glue stick to attach.

6. Step 6

   With a hole punch, punch scraps of aqua, orange, and other colored paper to create confetti. (Your hole punch has a little lever that, if pulled back, lets you dump the confetti out.) Use the glue stick to add the dots around the circumference of the tambourine.
