Materials

  • For the game board:
  • 2 large foam core boards
  • Craft knife
  • Beanbag Toss Game Board Template
  • 2 tones red construction paper
  • Pencil
  • Glue stick
  • Red electrical tape
  • Red string, yarn, or plastic cord
  • For the beanbags:
  • Kai-lan Character Beanbags Templates
  • Yellow, black, gold, red, and pink felt for Sun
  • 2 tones gray, blue, and black felt for Tolee
  • Beige, black, white, red, and brown felt for Kai-lan
  • Dry beans (about 1 1/2 bags)
  • Heavy-duty fabric glue
  • Scissors

Directions

  1. Step 1

For the game board: Trace a large circular object, such as a pot lid, in three places on one of the foam core boards. Cut out the holes with a craft knife.

  2. Step 2

Print the petal templates. For each flower, cut three light red and three dark red petals. Apply the petals with a glue stick, alternating light with dark red.

  3. Step 3

Print the templates and cut out the numbers 1, 2, and 3. With glue stick, apply to the board.

  4. Step 4

Lay the completed board on top of the plain board. Cut 2-inch strips of red tape and apply to the top of the boards, joining them to create "hinges."

  5. Step 5

With the tip of the craft knife poke a hole about 10 inches down from the top and 1 inch in from the side on the left side of the front board. Repeat on the right side. Do the same on the backboard. Knot the cord or string and thread it through one hole on the front board and out the hole on backboard. Knot to secure. Repeat on the opposite side. This will keep the board from splaying when beanbags hit it.

  6. Step 6

For the beanbags: Print and cut out the templates. For Sun, cut one yellow oval and one gold oval. Cut out the pink cheeks, black eyes, and red mouth. Glue the facial features to the yellow oval. Let dry. Apply glue to the circumference of the gold oval leaving a 1-inch opening so you can add the beans. Lay the yellow oval on top of the gold oval. Let dry. Then fill about three-quarters full with beans. Glue the opening closed. For Tolee, cut one blue oval and one gray oval. Cut out the black eyes and nose, and cut out the blue and gray ear pieces. Glue the light ear pieces to the dark ear pieces. Glue each ear to the inside edge of the blue oval. Then glue the eyes and nose to the gray oval. Apply glue to the circumference of the blue oval, leaving a 1-inch opening so you can add the beans. Lower the gray oval over the blue oval with the ears. Let dry. Fill, as with Sun, with beans. Glue the opening closed. For Kai-lan, cut out two head shapes from beige felt. Cut out the hair, flowers, and the facial pieces. Glue the facial features to the top head shape, referring to the image on our template. Apply glue to the circumference of the bottom head shape, leaving a 1-inch opening for the beans. Lay the top head shape on the bottom shape. Let dry. Fill with beans. Glue the opening closed.
