Easy steps to transform a few paper plates into a ladybug clock and discover a hidden surprise! This peek-a-boo clock is a fun way for your preschooler to learn to tell time.
Watch Kai-lan every day on Nick Jr.

For the ladybug's head, cut out a crescent shape slightly above the central circle of a 9-inch paper plate. Cut another paper plate in half for the ladybug's wings.
Have your child paint the back of the two half plates in red. After they dry, paint big black dots over the red paint.
Paint the back of the crescent shape in black. After drying, have your child draw two white circles in the center as the ladybug's eyes. Let dry, and then draw two smaller black circles within the eyes to make pupils. Set aside the painted pieces.
Cut out Kai-lan's Ladybug Clock Template. Attach Kai-lan's clock image in the center (through the front) of a new plate. If desired, paint the front of the plate before you glue on the clock image. Use the pointy tail of an unopened brad to poke through the bottoms of the hour and minute hands and the center of the plate (with the clock image in place). Open the brad fastener at the back of the plate to secure it.
Connect the ladybug shapes to the clock plate with a brad. Before you do that, arrange the pieces together to have a vision of the final product. All the painted sides of the plates and the clock image should face you--the clock plate at the bottom, the two wings forming a circle but slightly overlapped at the top, and the head (crescent shape) as the upmost layer covering the top corners of the wings. Use the pointy tail of an unopened brad to poke through the top of all the shapes in this order, and open the brad at the back of the clock plate to secure it.
