Kai-lan's Lantern Party Goody Bags

These goody bags can be handed out as children leave a party. Surprise your child or involve her in the craft before the party.

Materials

• Lantern Lotus Bag printables
• Lantern Bag printables
• Brown paper lunch bags
• 8 1/2- by 11-in. heavy-weight ink jet paper
• Safety scissors
• Glue stick
• 12-in.lengths of 1/4-in. diameter ribbon or yarn (any colory)
• Hole punch
• Construction paper (optional any color)

Directions

1. Step 1: Getting Ready

   You will need two images to make the front and back of your bag. For each goody bag, print two sets of either the Lotus Bag or Lantern Bag printables onto heavy-weight paper. Let pages dry briefly, then cut out the shapes. (You can choose our full-color designs or black-and-white designs that your child can color in). Create the interior for your bag by cutting off the top of a lunch bag so that it's the same height as the flower or lantern shapes. Ideally, the bag should not be visible once it is attached to the inside of your front and back pieces.

2. Step 2: Make Your Bag

   Keeping the trimmed lunch bag flat, glue the lantern or flower shapes to the front and back of the flattened lunch bag. Allow to dry completely before attaching the handles. <br /><br /> To create the handles, you will first need to punch two holes in the top corners or edges of your bag. For best results punch through the front and back at the same time to create even holes.<br /><br /> Next thread a 12-inch piece of ribbon or string through the holes on each side of your bag. Work from the inside out, gluing the loose ends to the inside of your bag. Let dry completely.<br /><br />

3. Step 3: Fill the bag

   Fill the bag with your party goodies.
