Materials

  • Kai-lan Lotus Flower Petal Shape
  • 2 to 3 two-oz. blocks pink polymer clay (such as Sculpey®)
  • 1 two-oz. block green polymer clay (such as Sculpey®)
  • Non-serrated plastic knife
  • Rolling pin, can, or any cylinder-shaped object
  • Heat-safe bowl with a flat base

Directions

  1. Step 1

Print and cut out the lotus flower petal shape.

  2. Step 2

Knead a big chunk of pink polymer clay in your hand until it's soft. Let your child roll a 1 1/4-inch ball, flatten it, and then use a rolling pin or any cylinder-shaped object to roll out the piece until it's big enough to cover the petal shape.

  3. Step 3

Put the petal shape on top of the clay layer, and have your child cut around the shape on the clay. Peel away the edges. Now you have one pink lotus flower petal ready.

  4. Step 4

Repeat the procedure to make at least five more petals. We made eight petals for our tray. The more petals you make, the more candy you can add to the tray.

  5. Step 5

Arrange the clay petals in a circle evenly to form a flower. Slightly knead the flower center to make sure it becomes one piece.

  6. Step 6

Let your child roll a 1-inch ball of green sculpting clay, flatten the ball, and then use the rolling pin to extend the piece until it's roughly as big as the bottom circle of the baking bowl. The green circle will serve as the base of the candy tray.

  7. Step 7

Put the green base beneath the "flower" in the center. Use a bit of pressure to make them join.

  8. Step 8

Lift the petals up while placing the whole piece into the bowl. Make sure the green base is in the center of the bowl.

  9. Step 9

Bake at 275°F for 30 minutes. Remove from the oven and let cool for 20 minutes. Take the finished candy tray out of the bowl.
