Olivia Costume

Always one to step out in style, Olivia's making an entrance this Halloween. Felt, a molded hat, and some store-bought basics are all you need to create this costume.

Materials

• Olivia Costume Templates
• 1 yd. red felt
• 1 square pale pink felt
• Fabric glue or red thread
• 2 large buttons
• Molded pink hat
• 2 large wiggly eyes
• Black fabric paint
• Red striped long-sleeve shirt
• Red-striped tights
• Pale pink and black face paint

Directions

1. Step 1

   Print the templates and enlarge them to fit your child. (We enlarged the dress templates about 290 percent at a copy center.) Use the templates to cut out the dress, ears, and nose from the red and pale-pink felt.

2. Step 3

   Sew or glue the side seams of the dress. (Sew or glue the dress inside out so the seams will be on the inside of the dress.)

3. Step 2

   Cut a rectangle from red felt as Olivia's pocket. Sew the pocket to the front of the dress.

4. Step 4

   Sew on the buttons and then cut slits for button holes.

5. Step 5

   Glue the eyes to the molded felt hat. Then glue on the ears (making sure to cut a slit up from the bottom center as indicated on the template) and nose. Draw two nostrils with fabric paint or cut two thin stripes from gray felt and glue them onto the nose. Let dry.

6. Step 6

   With face paint, apply a pale pink undercoat, then add a black mouth.

7. Step 7

   Dress your child in the shirt and tights. Then have her pull on the dress. Button the straps---and don the hat!
