Materials

Directions

  1. Step 1

Find an empty rectangular tissue box in your home and have your child paint it all over in red. Once dry, paint white horizontal stripes across the box to resemble Olivia's dress.

  2. Step 2

Once the paint has completely dried, cut open the top flap but leave one long side attached to the box body. This flap will become the lid of the piggy bank.

  3. Step 3

Print and cut out the Olivia Piggy Bank Top Cover on cardstock. Attach Olivia's head shape to the top of the lid.

  4. Step 4

Print out multiple copies of Olivia Piggy Bank Wallpaper to decorate the inside surfaces of the box. For the most efficient use of the wallpaper, measure the width and length of each surface, and mark lines on the wallpaper. Arrange as many shapes as possible on one sheet.

  5. Step 5

Draw two rectangles on a cardstock sheet with the width and the height of the side flap of the tissue box. Add a 1/4-inch tab to both ends (widthwise) of the shapes. Cut out the shapes (containing tabs) and fold the two tabs in opposite directions. These are "dividers" to segment your piggy bank.

  6. Step 6

Mark the spots where the dividers should be in the box--1/3 and 2/3 of the long sides. Apply glue to the folded tabs of the dividers and carefully place them inside the box one after another. You may need to keep pressing the tabs against the tissue box until the glue dries up.

  7. Step 7

Glue three piggy bank signs, SAVE, SHARE, SPEND, to the underside of the top flap (the lid). These signs are to allocate the uses of the three segments.

  8. Step 8 (OPTIONAL)

Give the piggy bank a final, personalized touch. Attach the group sticker to the front of the piggy bank, then have your kid write down her name and claim her property of the bank.
