Plex Electronic Gadgets Charging Pocket

Plex Electronic Gadgets Charging Pocket

The charging pocket saves space by keeping electronics off counters and tables. Begin with a crayon box and use our templates to embellish it with Plex details. Cords drop through the bottom of the box.

Materials

  • Printable Plex Templates
  • 1 empty 24-pack crayon box
  • Yellow, black, and gray foam sheets
  • 2 large wiggly eyes
  • Small piece of clear packing tape
  • Scissors
  • Craft glue
  • Removable hanging strips (from local hardware store) or a hook for hanging
Tip: We used metallic cardstock to give Plex his robotic look. You can also cover cardstock with tinfoil for the same effect.

Directions

  1. Step 1: Prepare the crayon box

Open the top of the crayon box and cut off the top flap. Cut a U-shape in the front of the crayon box for an opening. Open the bottom of the box and snip out a piece to allow the charger's cord to run out. Reinforce the bottom of box with clear packing tape.

  2. Step 2: Print templates and create Plex

Cut out all of the Plex templates. Using the template, trace all of the pieces as follows: the Plex head shape onto the yellow foam sheet; the face and cover pieces onto black; and the topper and ears onto the gray. Cut out all of the pieces. Glue the cover pieces onto the front, top and sides of the crayon box. Assemble and glue Plex's head as shown. Add the wiggly eyes.

  3. Step 3: Set up the charging station

You can hang the charging station on a wall near the outlet in one of two ways: Either poke a hole for a hook so it can be hung on the wall. Or, add removable hanging strips to the back and another to the wall.

4. Step 4: Get charging!

Drop Dad's phone, PDA, or MP3 player into the box. Slip the cord from the charger up through the bottom of the box, plugging it into the electronic. When the charger is not in use, keep the cord pulled up through the bottom of the box where it is easily accessible next time charging is necessary.

Tip: Dry the charging station flat on its back so glued pieces don't slip out of place.
