"Friends Kingdom" Helmet

Recreate scenes from Princess Kai-lan with this helmet the bear guards wear--and Kai-lan and friends use as a sneaky disguise!

Materials

• Purple and tan felt
• Purple cotton fabric
• Tan narrow ribbon
• Large purple self-adhesive gems
• 16 tiny gold-colored self-adhesive gems
• Fabric glue

Directions

1. Step 1

   Cut the purple felt into a large circle. Ours is about 11 inches in diameter.

2. Step 2

   To make the tan trim, trace the purple circle onto the tan felt. Then, cut away the outer 1 inch of the tan felt. Glue it to the outer edge of the tan felt. Let dry.

3. Step 3

   Cut a slit in to the center of the felt circle. Overlap the fabric along the cut line to create a cone-like shape for the hat. (If it is too big for your child, trim the circle to make it smaller.) Glue to secure.

4. Step 4

   Cut out a 1-inch purple circle. Cut out a 1 1/2-inch tan circle. Stack and glue the circles. Top the self-adhesive big gem. Glue to the front of the helmet. Press on additional tiny gold gems along the tan trim.

5. Step 5

   Cut a strip of cotton fabric (about 11 inches long and about 5 inches wide). Snip the tan ribbon into lengths and glue it to the cotton fabric to create a grid pattern.

6. Step 6

   Every half inch along the long side of cotton fabric, make a small notch. This will help it hang better when you glue it to the helmet.

7. Step 7

   Glue the notched edge of the cotton fabric to the inside edge of the helmet. Let dry. Press tiny gems to the inside of each of the squares made from ribbon.
