Materials

  • Swiper Pencil Case Templates
  • Scissors
  • Small orange, blue, black, white, yellow, and pink felt swatches
  • Fabric glue
  • Fabric paints (assorted colors)
  • Hook-and-loop tabs (Velcro)

Directions

  1. Step 1

Print and cut out the body template from the Swiper Pencil Case Templates and trace it onto orange felt. Increase or decrease the body length depending on the size of the pencils (or markers) your child uses. Cut out the felt piece.

  2. Step 2

Orient the felt cutout so Swiper's head is on top and fold the felt vertically in the middle. Glue the two open sides (the long vertical side and the shorter bottom horizontal side) with fabric glue. Leave the side up top--at Swiper's head--unglued. The pencils will slip inside this opening.

  3. Step 3

When the glue has dried, gently flip the case inside out to hide the seams.

  4. Step 4

Cut out the rest of the Swiper shapes and trace them onto felt of designated colors. Kids may need help cutting the smaller pieces or you can cut them out in advance and have kids assemble them.

  5. Step 5

Using the image on the third page of the printable as a guide, glue Swiper's facial features, limbs, and tail in place.

  6. Step 6

Using the same image reference, draw Swiper's eyes, pupils, and teeth with fabric paints. Paint blue gloves over Swiper's hands and paint the tips of Swiper's feet and tail yellow on both sides.

  7. Step 7

Once the paint has dried, place a square of self-adhesive Velcro on the inside of the flap--the back of Swiper's head--and the front of the case.
