Baby Tuck Pom-Pom Doll

Two pom-poms and some yarn yield a little friend who is bound to save the day!

Materials

• Cardstock or cardboard
• Scissors
• Yarn in dark green and medium green
• Yarn or tapestry needle
• Felt in white, red, dark blue, light blue, black, pink, and red
• Tuck Pom-Pom Doll Template
• Fabric glue

Directions

1. Step 1

   From the cardstock, cut four donut circles with holes in the center. (They should look like donuts.) Make two of them to about 3.5 inches in diameter. Make the other two about 2 inches in diameter. In the center of all circles, cut out a hole. You'll have what looks like four donuts.

2. Step 2

   Stack the two small circles, aligning their center holes. Cut several long pieces of both the dark green and medium green yarn. Starting in the center hole, wrap both colors of yarn over and under the outer ring of the donut through the center hole. Repeat this until you've gone all the way around the ring and your cardboard donut is completely covered. When your yarn and fleece runs out, just add in another length. You don't need to knot it. Just continue. You can trim the pompom to look neat when you are finished.

3. Step 3

   Snip a 6-inch piece of yarn. Set aside. Slip the tip of your scissors in through the outer edge of the donut and begin to snip around the circumference. Be sure to hold the donuts together firmly so you don't lose any of yarn. Pass the snipped length of yarn in between the two donut pieces, wrapping it around the "hole." Pull tightly and then tie in a double knot. You will have a tail of yarn left over. Do not snip it. You need it for sewing.

4. Step 4

   Repeat Step 2 with the two large donut pieces. However, wrap three-quarters of the way around the ring with the dark green yarn. And then wrap the remaining quarter of the ring with the medium green yarn. Repeat Step 3.

5. Step 5

   Using the tail of yarn left from tying the large pompom, stitch the large pompom to the small one.

6. Step 6

   With your scissors, trim the small pompom into an oval shape. Do the same for the large pom-pom. Snip away extra around the area where the large and small pom-poms meet so to create a "neck."

7. Step 7

   The medium green area of the pompom is going to be the front of Tuck's shell. Position it facing you. Then, using the printed templates, cut out the facial features, hat pieces, arms, water shoes, and cape pieces. Note that you stack two white circles and two red circles of felt to create the top of Tuck's hat. This is to make the pieces look thicker and more realistic.

8. Step 8

   Glue the pieces together and add them to Tuck. Trim Tuck with scissors again as needed to give him the desired shape.
