Team Umizoomi Geo's Shape Belt

Kids will love to play "super shapes" just like Geo!

Materials

• Measuring tape
• Orange felt yardage
• Scissors
• Yellow and green felt sheets
• Fabric glue (OPTIONAL)
• Hook-and-loop fasteners with sticky back (such as Velcro)

Directions

1. Step 1

   Measure your kid's waist, add 3 to 4 inches to that number, and cut out from the orange felt yardage a matching strip of equal length. Set aside the belt base.

2. Step 2

   From yellow and green felt sheets, cut out various shapes at around the same size, not exceeding the belt's height. Suggested shapes: triangle, square, circle, pentagon, hexagon, oval, rectangle, diamond, trapezoid, or octagon.

3. Step 3

   Evenly distribute the shapes along the belt and glue them down with fabric glue. Leave 3 to 4 inches blank at the end of the belt for the overlapping part.

4. Step 4 (For Interactive Play)

   To make the belt an interactive math tool, instead of gluing down the shapes, apply a piece of self-adhesive "hook" fastener (Velcro) to the back of each shape. Press the shapes down onto the belt (no "loop" fastener is needed). "Hooks" at the back of the shapes will allow your child to freely arrange the shapes and create/repeat any pattern on the belt.

5. Step 5

   At the top of the belt, place a piece of "hook" on the inside.

6. Step 6

   Put the belt on your preschooler and let the math journey begin!
