Materials

  • Large and small squares of felt or fleece
  • Wonder Pets! Ornaments Templates
  • Fabric scissors (adults only)
  • Water-resistant fabric glue (Fabri-Tac or something similar)
  • Pillow stuffing (cotton or polyester batting)
  • Puffy paint
  • Assortment of buttons
  • Sequins
  • Curling ribbon

Directions

  1. Step 1: Getting Ready

Prepare your work area by assembling all the craft items you'll need for making your pillow creation, then print out the Ornaments Template for your child's favorite Wonder Pets! character. To make Linny, you will need: Two large squares of light brown felt One small square of peach, black, light pink, orange, and dark brown felt To make Ming-Ming, you will need: Two large squares of dark brown felt One small square of light yellow, black, dark gray, light purple, and dark green felt To make Tuck, you will need: Two large squares of green felt One small square of gray, dark blue, orange, red, black, and dark green felt

  2. Step 2: Cutting Out the Pieces

A grownup should cut out the template pieces and use them to cut out the ornament pieces from sheets of felt or fleece, while your preschool-aged helper assembles the face details using the full-color final ornament template as a guide. It may be easiest to cut out the front panel first and then use that piece as a guide to cut out the back panel.

  3. Step 3: Creating the Faces

Help your child apply the face details to the front ornament panel. A grownup should apply the glue to and place the face pieces on the face panel. Apply light pressure to ensure the pieces stay in place. Fabri-Tac and similar products are quick-drying.

  4. Step 4: Assembling the Ornaments

Linny: Once the face and hat have been glued down and the puffy paint applied, glue together the sides and bottom of Linny's head. Use several beads of glue between the front and back panel edges, leaving a space open at the top. Press the edges together until the glue takes (about a minute). Once the sides of the head have dried, begin stuffing with batting. Try not to overstuff the ornament, as this will make it difficult to glue the top together. Ming-Ming: Once the eyes beak and hat have been glued down, add some of your own flare with the puffy paint and sequins. Then glue together the sides and bottom by adding several beads of glue and pressing the edges together until the glue takes (about a minute). Once the sides of the head have dried, stuff with the batting. Try not to overstuff the ornament, as this will make it difficult to glue the top together. Tuck: Once the eye and hat have been glued down, glue together the top of Tuck's head. Use several beads of glue then press the edges together until the glue takes (about a minute). Once the top of the head has dried, begin stuffing with batting and gluing the sides together. Try not to overstuff the ornament, as this will make it difficult to glue the sides together. Once the ornament has been stuffed, glue the top together, looping the curling ribbon and holding it in place in the seam at the top.
