This soda-fountain-inspired treat is fun to make and delicious to drink. Kids will enjoy experimenting with different flavors of ice cream or frozen yogurt, watching the love potion bubble up when you add the soda, and slurping the pink foam with a spoon.
Grenadine syrup (or other flavored syrup)
Fruit-swirled ice cream or frozen yogurt
Clear soda (such as 7-Up or Sprite)
Strawberries, maraschino cherries, or other fruit (for garnish)
Step 1
Place one or two scoops of ice cream or frozen yogurt into a tall glass and add a tablespoon of grenadine or other flavored syrup.
Step 2
Show kids how to pour the soda over the ice cream a little at a time and watch as a pink cloud forms in the glass. Be careful not to pour too quickly or the glass will overflow. If you like, you can explain to kids that the foam is created because the soda bubbles become coated with ice cream so they can't pop right away.
Step 3
Garnish the glass with a tall straw, a long-handled spoon, and a sliced strawberry, maraschino cherry, or other fruit and serve right away.
