Age-By-Age Guide
Comedy | Classic
Singing chipmunk trio Alvin, Simon, and Theodore become pop sensations, wreaking havoc on the life of the human songwriter (Jason Lee) who helped get them there.

More than 20 years after their hit TV show, the popular cartoon characters are finally making their live action/CGI big-screen debut and kids are likely to join in the cry for "ALVIN!!!!!!!" A new generation of fans will relate to the mischievous 'munks--ringleader Alvin, smart Simon and lovable Theodore--and will happily follow along as the fur goes flying!
Baby (0-2)
No This movie is intended for older children.
Preschool (3-5)
Maybe Very young preschoolers may not follow--or be interested in--the story lines about greedy record producer Ian, who takes advantage of the Chipmunks and forces them to perform even when they're exhausted, and Dave's on-again-off-again relationship with the girl next door. Five-year-olds will enjoy the Chipmunks themselves, and will crack up when they do their own inimitable song and dance routine to "Funkytown."
Kids (6-9)
Yes For many kids in this age group, the Chipmunks are simply furry versions of themselves, enjoying "SpongeBob," getting into trouble just for trying to figure out how things work and excited about opening presents. Kids will laugh when Alvin uses a towel ring as a hula hoop and when he and Theodore accidentally get sucked up in the vacuum! They may even learn that the ones who let you do whatever you want and give you everything you could ever ask for are not the people who truly love and care about you the most.
Tweens (10-12)
Maybe Twelve-year-olds have probably outgrown the novelty of the trio, but may want to hear "The Chipmunk Song" one more time. Younger tweens may appreciate the 'munks' irreverent attitude and snappy dialogue, especially when a disbelieving Dave asks them if they're really talking and they answer, flippantly, "Well, our lips are moving and words are coming out."
