Pirate Captain (Hugh Grant) is determined to finally win the coveted Pirate of the Year Award after repeatedly losing to rivals Black Bellamy (Jeremy Piven) and Cutlass Liz (Salma Hayek).
This animated adventure from the creators of Wallace and Gromit,Chicken Run and Arthur Christmas is often very funny--but it's more the kind of humor you appreciate for its cleverness rather than the kind that makes you laugh out loud. Much of it will go right over the heads of young pirate fans, who will not understand how Charles Darwin fits into the story--or even know who he is. If you want to see the movie in a theater, don't wait. With the movie marketed to kids but the jokes geared toward adults, these “Pirates” may not last long in the box office survival of the fittest.
This movie is intended for older children.

The pace may be too frenetic for young viewers, who will miss many of the gags. Older kids will love Mr. Bobo, the monkey butler who communicates through flash cards, and will find it especially funny when he screams "BUT …" at one point, only to be "shush"-ed by his boss, returning with a new card that reads, "but ..." They'll also laugh when Captain Pirate and his crew dress as Girl Scouts, convinced they've found the perfect disguise.
Tweens will think it's hilarious that the Captain Pirate is so proud of his "luxuriant" full beard, and will enjoy seeing everything he's able to hide in it. They'll get a kick out of the good-natured pirates, the camaraderie between them and their deep appreciation of "ham nite!" They'll also be intrigued by the pirate-hating Queen Victoria and her taste for exotic foods.
This pack comes with Blu-ray and DVD versions of the movie, both of which include the mini-movie, "So You Want to Be a Pirate!" The DVD has an exclusive game, "Mr. Bobo's Flash Card Challenge." The Blu-ray has the exclusive "Pirate Disguise Dress-Up" game, plus two behind-the-scenes segments.
