The Upside Down Show:

Extend the Learning

Print this Page Send to a friend
To help reinforce the lessons of The Upside Down Show, here are some play-at-home ideas based on each episode written by Anna Housley Juster, M.A., Director of Content for Sesame Street and The Upside Down Show.

Episode 112: Ice Cream Truck

Skills Developed:

  • Letter-sound Recognition
  • Rhyming

  • The Schmuzzies rhyme as they speak, and their spin on the English language prompts children to pay special attention to letter sounds. You can extend this learning by playing rhyming games with your child. When driving in the car or waiting in line at the store, start with a word and ask your child to rhyme with you. You can start simply with an easy word such as "cat," and then try harder words such as, "bank, tank, rank" or "floor, more, pour."

If you or your child is stuck and cannot think of a new rhyming word, just make one up! "Baboon, moon, goon, lazoon, callawajoooooon!"
