Episode 106: Picnic
Skill Developed:
Self-confidence
Preschoolers are often struggling to learn new things, and everyday life can be a challenge. Challenge is wonderful, but sometimes it's nice to celebrate the skills your child has already mastered. The next time your child is brushing her teeth before bed, acknowledge what she is doing: "Wow! I can't believe you know how to brush your own teeth! I need to see that again." Press the instant replay button on your imaginary remote. She can now brush her teeth again. You're boosting her self-confidence by celebrating something she's already learned how to do and you're encouraging her to spend longer brushing. (The dentist will thank you!)
You can also play the "Adult Mistake Game!" The next time you're putting on your jacket, pretend you've completely forgotten how to do it. Your child can talk you through it or show you how and will love the chance to be the expert.
