Try this craft at your child's next party. Ask parents to bring an old T-shirt and have kids hand-print their own shirt and their friends' shirts. This craft works best as an outdoor activity.
Newspaper
Several colors of fabric paint (available at craft stores)
Disposable pie pans
Plain white T-shirts
Fabric marker
Plastic bins (or a garden hose)
Clothesline and clothespins
Paper towels
Step 1
On a worktable covered in newspaper, pour paints into the pie pans.
Step 2
Spread out the T-shirts next to the paints (assembly-line style). Write the child's name on his shirt somewhere inconspicuous using the fabric marker.(Optional: Write "Thanks for coming to Joanie's 4th birthday" or "Joanie's 4" on each T-shirt with the fabric marker.)
Step 3
Have children line up and roll up their sleeves. Each child gets to dip each hand into whichever colors she chooses and makes handprints on every shirt.
Step 4
At the end of the line, have bins of warm water or a garden hose and lots of paper towels ready to help the kids wash their hands.
Step 5
After the kids are cleaned up, an adult can hang the T-shirts on the line to dry and each child can take his shirt home.
