Toasted Pumpkin Seeds

Carving a jack-o'-lantern is always a messy and grand family event. But once the hands are washed and the pumpkins are lit, there's still more action to be found. Gather the seeds and make either a sweet treat or a savory snack--both are perfect for little hands!

Ingredients
Fresh pumpkin seeds
1/4 cup melted butter
Savory Ingredients
1/2 tsp. cumin
1/4 tsp. kosher salt
Sweet Ingredients
2 tbsp. sugar
1/4 tsp. ground cinnamon

Start Cooking

Step 1
As you carve your jack-o'-lantern, scoop out the seeds, strings, and fiber. Lay the innards out in a single layer and let air dry for about three hours (the strings and fiber will be easier to remove when dry).

Step 2
Separate out the seeds.

Step 3
Preheat the oven to 350°F.

Step 4
In a bowl, toss the seeds with the butter and either the savory or sweet seasonings.

Step 5
Spread the seeds evenly in one layer on a baking sheet. Bake for 25 minutes, stirring the seeds every few minutes.

Step 6
Remove from the oven and cool completely. Taste the seeds and re-season if desired.
