What You Need
Eggs
Resealable bag
Sewing needle
Colored markers
Empty egg carton (paper towel rolls or sturdy craft paper)
Scissors (optional)
Sticky tape (optional)
Cotton ball
Grass seed (available at garden-supply stores)

What You Do

Step 1
Gently crack open the eggs close to their tops and discard the smaller halves. Cook the eggs right away or beat them with a fork, pour into a resealable bag, and freeze to use at a later time. Carefully rinse out the larger half of the eggshell. Use the sewing needle to carefully poke a small drainage hole in the bottom of each shell.

Step 2
Have your child draw silly faces on the eggshells using the colored markers.

Step 3
Set the eggshells inside the empty egg carton or place them on a stand you've made from a paper towel roll or a strip of sturdy paper taped into a circle. For an added touch, kids can draw a bowtie or necklace on the stand.

Step 4
Have your child drop a damp cotton ball inside each eggshell and sprinkle grass seed on top of the cotton ball. Keep the eggs in a warm place and keep the cotton ball damp. (When watering, remove the egg from its holder and allow excess water to drain away before putting it back.) Move the eggs to a sunny window as soon as the grass sprouts. Soon your child will be able to give the egghead a haircut!
