A little paint, a kitchen sponge, a few pipe cleaners, and a lot of fun transform hard-boiled eggs into your favorite Bikini Bottom pal.

What You Need
1 egg-carton
Red felt or red paper
2 yellow pipe cleaners
2 white pipe cleaners
1 small paintbrush
Yellow and brown acrylic paint
1 hard-boiled egg (or a plastic egg)
SpongeBob Egg Template
1 yellow sponge (such as O-Cel-O brand)
White craft foam or white cardboard
Craft glue
Scissors
Black fine-point marker
Yellow felt or yellow paper
2 medium-white pony beads
2 small and 2 medium black pony beads
Tape measure

What You Do

Step 1
To make the stand for your egg, cut a cardboard egg carton into individual cells.

Step 2
While the kids are painting the eggs, cut out the felt and the pipe cleaners so they'll be ready to attach after the eggs are dry.

Step 3
Paint the egg-carton cell brown and paint the egg yellow. (We used Scribbles brand acrylic paint.) Let them dry for one hour. The paint will dry slightly darker than it looks wet. You can also paint both the egg and the sponge after step 6, for an exact color match.

Step 4
Print the SpongeBob Egg Template on a color printer and use the template as a guide to measure and cut the sponge to size.

Step 5
Place the egg on the sponge as shown on the template. Trace around the egg, remove it, and draw a second, slightly smaller oval inside the first one. Use scissors to cut out the smaller oval.

Step 6
Slip the sponge over the egg, positioning it halfway between the front and back of the egg. Do not apply too much force. If needed, enlarge the oval or dampen the sponge slightly to make it easier to work with.

Step 7
Cut out SpongeBob's face and glue it to the egg.

Step 8
Cut a 7- by 1/2-inch strip of white foam or cardboard. Glue the strip around the sponge's base and draw two triangles for SpongeBob's collar. Cut out and glue on a red felt or paper tie.

Step 9
Cut yellow pipe cleaners into 3-inch pieces and cut out two yellow felt hands. Glue the hands to the pipe cleaners. Slip one white pony bead onto the top of each pipe cleaner for SpongeBob's sleeves and push each pipe cleaner at least 1/4 inch into each side of the sponge.

Step 10
Cut two white pipe cleaners into 3 1/2 inch pieces. Glue a small black bead and a medium one onto the ends to make SpongeBob's shoes. Paint the top half of the pipe cleaners yellow for SpongeBob's legs. Poke two holes into the egg stand with scissors and push a pipe cleaner into each hole.

Step 11
Draw black dashes on the stand for SpongeBob's belt. Cut a hole in the stand to accept the tab in the bottom of the sponge and set SpongeBob up on the stand. If he tips, shape the bottom of the stand with scissors until he sits up straight.
