Dora the Explorer Basketball

Let's play Dora's version of the popular basketball game H.O.R.S.E. Each time your child makes a basket, she gets a piece of an animal puzzle. When the puzzle is complete, help your child say the animal's name in English and Spanish.

What You Need
Dora's Basketball Puzzles
Scissors
String or twine (optional)
Basketball hoop (or laundry basket)
Child-sized basketball

What You Do

Step 1
Print Dora's Basketball Puzzles and cut them into pieces as indicated.

Step 2
Set up your court. You can purchase a children's basketball hoop or make your own by securing a laundry basket, bucket, or cardboard box to a chair. You may want to secure the basket in place with a length of string or twine. If you're using a homemade hoop, a small, lightweight ball will work best. For very young kids, hold a hula-hoop in the air.

Step 3
Have your child shoot the ball from different distances around the court. (Young kids may only be able to shoot from up close.) For each basket made, reveal a new piece of the puzzle. When your child scores enough to complete the puzzle, say the animal's name in English and in Spanish together.

Step 4
If there's more than one player, have kids take turns shooting the ball to get puzzle pieces. Then say the animal's name in English and Spanish with each child. Even if one child sinks all the baskets, that's okay, because they all get to figure out the puzzle (and learn) together.
