Expert Tips
Cross-country skiing can be very tiring for little legs, so plan short outings with lots of scenery. To acquaint your kids with the movement of the sport, Kathy Stevens, a Reebok Master Trainer and mother of five, suggests slide lunges. Start the exercise with both feet together, and then have them slide one foot out in front (about two feet) until they're in a lunge position. Pull back and alternate feet. Kids can do this exercise in their socks for "super sliding" action.

ABC Scouting
As you journey down the trail, Stevens suggests you try to spot anything that starts with the letter "A," then "B," then "C," and so on. Once you get through the entire alphabet, start scouting with numbers: one farmhouse, two pine trees, three pinecones, four clouds, etc.
