Expert Tips
If your child enjoys in-line skating or ice skating, snowblading is sure to be a score. Snowblades, which resemble really small skis (about a quarter the size), have gained tremendous popularity recently, and Cheryl Rieker, operations director at Jack Frost Mountain/Big Boulder Ski Area in the Pocono Mountains, says kids tend to pick it up fairly quickly.
Games
Paper Plate Skate
To get the hang of snowblading, Kathy Stevens, a Reebok Master Trainer and mother of five, recommends this indoor warm-up. Have your kids step on paper plates so they can slide around on a tiled floor like they're ice-skating. For extra speed, they can swing their arms for momentum.
Snowblading Scavenger Hunt
Every kid loves a good old-fashioned scavenger hunt--especially when they get to slide around for the hidden goodies. Hide pine cones, balls, and other fun objects behind bushes or under trees, and have your bladers explore the area until they've found everything.
