Few crafts could be easier than making a simple sock puppet. All you need is a couple of spare socks and a bit of imagination. This version involves a little sewing, but it's not required.
Step 1
Put the light-colored sock on your child's hand. Show her how to create a mouth by tucking a portion of the sock between her thumb and palm.
Step 2
Help your child use fabric markers or permanent markers to draw a mouth and eyes.
Step 3
Take the heel of the other sock and draw a line around it as shown. Help your child cut this part off to make a hat. A striped or patterned sock works nicely for this.
Step 4
Sew the hat on very securely. (This is a job for parents.) While you are sewing, talk to your child about what kind of puppet show you can put on together. Ask her what the story will be and who she'd like to come to see the show. If you have a new baby in the house, have your child put on a show for her new sibling or act out her feelings about the baby.
Step 5
Put on the puppet show. Your child can simply hold up her puppet and talk to it, or (if she'd like to be hidden) sit behind a table or her bed.
