Step 1
Draw two 3-inch circles on the cardboard with a ruler or compass and cut them out. Cut a one-inch circle in the center of each circle. Then cut out two 1 3/4-inch disks with 1/2-inch holes in the middle.
Step 2
Help kids cut four pieces of yarn, each about 50 inches long and attach them to a small piece of pipe cleaner. Put the two large disks on top of each other. Leaving a 2-inch tail at the end of the yarn, help kids wrap the disks by threading the pipe cleaner through the center hole and out again. Continue wrapping until the entire disk is covered. The more yarn you wrap around, the fluffier the pom pom will be.
Step 3
Insert the scissors between the two disks and snip the yarn around the outside edge of the disks. Leaving the disks in place, slip a 12-inch piece of yarn in between the disks and tie tightly. Slide the cardboard disks off. Wrap two black pipe cleaners tightly around the middle, where you tied the yarn. Fluff and trim the pom pom and trim Miss Spider's legs.
Step 4
Repeat these steps with the smaller disks to make Miss Spider's head, When tying off this pom-pom, use two long pieces of yarn. This will allow you to use two pieces to tie the head to the body, and two pieces to make a loop for hanging.
Step 5
Cut two 1-inch circles out of green craft foam. Glue blue gemstones or googly eyes in the middle (or color in the eyes with a dark-blue marker). Cut eyelashes out of black paper and glue to the back of the green foam. Glue the eyes to the small pom pom. Press the yarn firmly around the glue. Cut a sliver of red felt for her mouth and the comb at the top of her head. Glue in place.
