Step 1
Using a polymer clay from a crafts store (the kind of clay that needs to be baked works best), roll or form the clay into desired shapes. Try to make the beads somewhat similar in size, so they will bake in the same amount of time, and be sure that each bead has an area thick enough that it can be pierced without breaking.
Step 2
Preheat the oven according to the package directions. Holding a bead in your hand, pierce from one side, then the other side with a skewer. You may want to snip off the pointed ends of the skewers for added safety or do this step yourself.
Step 3
Kids can place the beads on a baking sheet and parents can bake according to package directions. Allow the beads to cool completely.
Step 4
Place each bead on a skewer and paint with acrylic paints. When kids have finished painting a bead, stand the skewer in a glass or flower pot to dry for about 30 minutes.
Step 5
String the beads on the jute or string and tie the ends together in a bow or a knot.
