Babies will fall in love with Babar and his family and friends but the battle scenes between the rhinos and the elephants make up most of the movie and may be too intense for very young viewers. |

Preschoolers are likely to want to watch the movie on a parent's lap, especially when elephant babies are snatched from their mothers, who are chained and taken away. Young audiences will get a kick out of Zephir the monkey, as he provides some much-needed comic relief. When future Queen Celeste tells Babar, "You're really something," Zephir adds, "Yeah, something weird!" For many preschoolers, the most interesting part of the movie may be the beginning scenes when Babar tucks his four children into their beds, as they beg for a long bedtime story and little Isabel sucks her trunk. |

Most kids in this age group have outgrown Babar, but those on the younger end will enjoy the nostalgic look back to his pre-royalty days. Those on the older end will appreciate the frustration Babar feels with the bureaucracy of his kingdom. They'll also internalize the law of the jungle that when someone does you a favor, it's your obligation to repay them in some way. |
