Age-By-Age Guide
Educational
A 10-year study by Cambridge University follows the daily lives and relationships of the Whiskers family of meerkats in this Emmy Award-nominated TV series.

More dramatic and exciting than any soap opera, this DVD contains all 13 episodes of Animal Planet's #1 show. Using state-of-the-art technology to track the family's movements 24 hours a day, the show gives viewers an all-access pass to these highly developed creatures as they experience births and deaths, love and loss, victory and defeat. For audiences of all ages, it's the ultimate reality show.

Kids (6-9)
Maybe This is no happy-ending Disney cartoon, and the graphic deaths of baby meerkats along with the constant peril in which these real animals find themselves may be too disturbing for younger children. The creatures are relentlessly threatened by predators, rival gangs, and the harsh and dangerous South African environment, where they make their home. Sensitive viewers may ask why the humans behind the cameras don't try to help them. Older kids will be awestruck by the courage and determination of these animals who are only 3 inches tall when they make their first appearance out of the burrow, and who only stand a foot tall fully grown.
Tweens (10-12)
Yes The similarities between meerkat and human behavior is likely to fascinate tweens, who may have their own favorite characters, including the heroic Shakespeare and even the socially off-kilter Youssarian. They'll find matriarch Flower a strong and charismatic leader and will admire her ability to care for her 29 charges, even when it means punishing her daughters for getting pregnant without permission. Kids in this age group will realize how important family is to survival, and that everyone needs to pull their weight or the community will collapse.
