Age-By-Age Guide
Action Adventure | Comedy
History literally comes alive when night watchman Larry (Ben Stiller) follows his formerly inanimate charges to the Smithsonian, where they end up in the middle of a battle between villains Ivan the Terrible, Napoleon, and Al Capone and heroes Albert Einstein, Abraham Lincoln and Amelia Earhart (Amy Adams).

Laugh-packed and featuring some of the most colorful characters in history, this is the most fun family movie! Audiences of all ages made the original a hit, and this one uses even more innovative special effects to bring famous paintings and sculptures to life. The movie is entertaining, educational and likely to make any other museum trip kids take seem very anti-climactic!
Baby (0-2)
No This movie is intended for older children.
Preschool (3-5)
No This movie is intended for older children.
Kids (6-9)
Maybe The pace may be too frenetic for younger viewers, who probably won't recognize many of the historical figures. Older kids will be awestruck when Abraham Lincoln stands up from his Memorial, when The Thinker leaves his seat and when Degas' dancer practices her movements. They may find some fascinating new subjects for school biographies and girls in particular will feel empowered by adventure-seeking aviator Amelia Earhart.
Tweens (10-12)
Yes Because tweens will probably have learned about most of these characters, they will appreciate their significance in the story--and in history! For many kids, this movie may be the closest they get to the Smithsonian, and the filmmakers do them a great service by providing a guided tour through some of its museums. Tweens will get a kick out of seeing works like "American Gothic" and Albert Eisenstaedt's "Times Square Kiss" photograph become truly interactive, and will get a kick out of appearances by Darth Vader and Oscar the Grouch.
