Age-By-Age Guide
Action Adventure | Fantasy/Sci-Fi
Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock are brought together for the first time when they join forces on the Starship Enterprise to help keep peace in the universe.

Poised to be one of the summer's biggest blockbusters, this prequel to the iconic TV show is likely to appeal to Trekkies and non-Trekkies alike. Those who have never seen Star Trek will simply enjoy the special effects and the relationship between rebellious Kirk and logical Spock. Devoted fans will get a kick out of seeing these young, modern versions of the beloved characters, and may even get a little teary at the return of original Spock, Leonard Nimoy. The release of this new version insures that another generation will extend the Star Trek mantra to "live long and prosper."
Baby (0-2)
No This movie is intended for older children.
Preschool (3-5)
No This movie is intended for older children.
Kids (6-9)
Maybe Younger children may not follow the whole story, and may find Kirk's birth scene disturbing--not just because of his mother's pain but because his father dies in a crash right afterwards. Kids will be dazzled by the special effects, and will be fascinated by the differences between Kirk and Spock and the fact that they can get past them and still develop a deep respect for each other.
Tweens (10-12)
Yes Tweens will get a kick out of the way Kirk and Spock interact with each other, and will be reminded of the Mac and PC guys in the TV commercials! They'll realize the truth of Spock's advice from his father, "You are fully capable of deciding your own destiny," and will be interested in watching how Spock deals with his mixed heritage of Vulcan and human. They'll think it's hilarious when someone asks him, "Are you out of your Vulcan mind?" and they'll feel hopeful for the future, knowing that it's being watched over by the dedicated crew of the Enterprise.
