After a violent and traumatic childhood, a mutant with long, deadly blades hidden between his knuckles (Hugh Jackman) vows to give up fighting, only to end up being transformed into a killing machine called Wolverine.
Fans of the Marvel Comic character will be eager to learn the back story behind the superhero's rise, although the movie is ultimately frustrating, raising more questions than it answers. There's a lot of violence and action, but not very much suspense as tweens will quickly realize there's not much point to the fight to the death between Wolverine and his brother Sabretooth since they're both indestructible!
This movie is intended for older children.
This movie is intended for older children.
The movie is probably too violent for younger children, and there's a scene in which Logan lies in a water-filled tank, being injected with humongous needles which cause him to writhe in pain, that will have them cringing and closing their eyes in horror. Older kids will be fascinated by the variety of powers the different mutants possess, and may recognize some other Marvel characters among those locked up by the government.
Tweens will be especially interested in the relationship between Wolverine and his brother, and will realize that we all have choices and it's up to us to make the right ones. They'll be curious about what caused the mutants' mutations--but, unfortunately, they won't get those answers in this movie.
