Dora the Explorer's animal-rescuer cousin helps a lost baby wolf find its family and saves a father and son pygmy marmoset in these animated adventures.
Just like Dora, Diego empowers young viewers by setting up challenging situations and giving kids the tools to accomplish their goal. Along the way, they'll pick up new Spanish vocabulary words, math skills, and problem-solving strategies. Diego's rescue missions are exciting and dramatic--the preschool equivalent of edge-of-your-seat action movies!
Even the youngest viewers love animals, so sensitive little ones may be upset that so many creatures are in trouble in these episodes. On-the-move toddlers may be happy to follow Diego and Dora's requests to "Stand up!" and "Stretch!" in order to help the animals. Two-year-olds may be especially interested in the second episode, "A Booboo on the Pygmy Marmoset," watching carefully to gauge the frightened baby's reaction when Diego puts medicine on his wounds.
There is so much to participate in, watch, listen to, and learn in these episodes, that preschoolers should be glued to the screen. They'll enjoy spouting back facts about the animals they meet and answering the quizzes at the end of each episode ("Do pygmy marmosets eat spaghetti and meatballs or tree sap?" and "Do maned wolves have long legs or flippers?"). They'll love waking up the sleeping Healing Tree by screaming "Buenos dias!"--maybe so much that they'll wake you up the same way!
Most kids in this age group would probably prefer to watch shows starring real animals, but those on the younger end may be intrigued by the variety of exotic animals Diego encounters. Maned wolves and pygmy marmosets are not typically featured in children's animation, and kids just may find themselves curious to learn more about them and eager to start their own field journals.
