This simple cupcake recipe can be used over and over again for birthday parties, holidays, or to make and decorate Nick Jr. Cupcakes. Or as an alternative, you can make these same character cupcakes using a Basic Vanilla Cupcakes recipe.
Butter or shortening
Flour
1 package devil's food cake mix (with pudding in the mix)
3/4 cup water
1/2 cup oil
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
1 cup sour cream
1 square unsweetened chocolate, melted
Step 1
Preheat the oven to 350°F. Grease pan generously with butter or shortening and dust lightly with flour.
Step 2
Mix the cake mix with water, oil, vanilla, and sour cream. Blend in melted chocolate. Beat for about two minutes with a hand mixer set at high speed.
Step 3
Line cupcake tins with paper cupcake liners and fill three-quarters to the top with the mixture. Bake about 25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Step 4
Let cupcakes cool. Remove from the pan and decorate.
