Step 1
Preheat the oven to 350°F. Grease and flour two 8-inch-round cake pans. Prepare the cake mix according to package directions and divide the batter evenly between the cake pans. Smooth the tops with a spatula and bake until golden and a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean, about 30 to 35 minutes. Transfer the pans to a wire rack to cool ten minutes. Remove the cake layers from their pans and allow them to cool completely.
Step 2
Tint the frosting green with the food coloring. Start with a tiny dab of food coloring on the end of a toothpick and add more until you achieve a leafy green shade. Place a cake layer on a serving platter and spread 1/2 cup of the frosting on top. Place the second layer on top. Cover the cake with the remaining frosting. Add the banana trees and leaves, chocolate monkeys, jaguar cookies, and chocolate bears.
