To make these decorations for a Diego Rain Forest Cake, you'll need green candy melting wafers, which are available at baking-supply stores.
1 1/2 cups green candy melting wafers
3 pretzel rods
1/4 cup banana candies (Runts)
6 rolls green fruit leather (such as Fruit by the Foot Apple Wave)
Step 1
Line two cookie sheets with wax paper. Melt the green candy wafers in the microwave until smooth, for about one minute.
Step 2
Pour the melted candy into a resealable bag. Snip a tiny corner from the bag and pipe fern-like leaves onto the wax paper freehand. Refrigerate the leaves until set, about five minutes.
Step 3
Peel several of the leaves from wax paper. Place the pretzel rods on the wax paper and attach several of the leaves and a cluster of banana candies near the top of the trees with the remaining green candy. (Reheat the candy in the bag if necessary.) Refrigerate the trees until set.
Step 4
On a clean work surface, unroll the fruit leather and press two strips together. With a sharp paring knife, cut the fruit leather into strips 3 inches wide. Cut each strip into an oval leaf shape freehand.
