To give your child's party a tropical look, all you need are a few paper goods from your local craft store. Add a few tissue-paper flowers to complete the decor.
1-2 rolls brown craft paper (or butcher paper)
Scissors
Masking tape (or other heavy-duty tape)
Green construction paper
Crepe-paper streamers in assorted colors
Yellow tissue paper
Step 1
Cut the craft paper into 2- to 3-foot sections and lay them out on the floor to make a meandering path for guests to follow. Round the edges with scissors and use loops of masking tape to secure the paper to the floor.
Step 2
Cut long, wide leaf shapes from the green construction paper. Cut slits along the edges of these shapes to make the leaves look fringed.
Step 3
Drape green crepe paper across the ceiling from the corners to the center of the room and secure them with loops of masking tape. (Adults will want to do this part.) Drape more crepe paper down from the ceiling to the floor to make vines. Kids can tape the leaves to the vines, windows, and doorways.
Step 4
Help your child tape green streamers and leaves around your table and to the backs of chairs. Intersperse a few streamers in tropical colors such as red, yellow, and orange.
Step 5
Make tissue-paper flowers with your child using yellow tissue and tape these around the room.
