Servings: 8

Prep Time: 5 min.

Cook Time: 30 min.

  • 2 tbsp. olive oil
  • 2 large cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can ( 32 oz.) tomatoes in puree
  • Salt and freshly ground pepper
  • 1/4 tsp. dried oregano
Tip: If you prefer a smoother sauce, substitute a box of strained tomatoes (such as Pomi). This type of sauce contains no added sugar or corn syrup.

  1. Step 1

Heat the olive oil in a medium sauce pan over medium heat. Add the garlic and cook until fragrant, about 30 seconds. Add the tomatoes and break them up with a potato masher or the back of a spoon until they are small pieces. Season to taste with salt and pepper and add the oregano.

  2. Step 2

Bring the mixture to a boil and simmer over low heat, stirring occasionally, for about 30 minutes.

  3. Step 3

Transfer to a container and cool completely. Makes about 2 cups sauce. Can cover and keep for up to one week in the refrigerator.
