Fresh Beat Band Bento Box
Lots for Kids to Do
This recipe has plenty of steps kids can do, like mixing, cutting with a plastic knife, measuring, and more.
Parent Supervision Needed
This recipe requires extra parent involvement and a watchful eye, because it may require sharp tools or hot pans.

Servings: 1

Prep Time: 30 min.

Ingredients

  • Piano Sandwich:
  • 2 slices white bread
  • 1 slice pumpernickel bread
  • 2 tbsp. peanut butter
  • Flute Cookies:
  • 2-3 "Pirouette" cookies
  • 1/4 cup chocolate chips, melted
  • Oat "O" cereal, (Cheerios or similar)
  • Veggie Drum Sticks:
  • Carrots and celery sticks

Supplies

  • Small plastic resealable bag

Directions

  1. Step 1

Spread the peanut butter on top of one slice of the white bread. Cut the remaining white bread into 1-inch slices, crosswise. Cut the pumpernickel bread into 1/2 inch slices, crosswise. Next, cut the pumpernickel slices in half crosswise to make the black piano keys.

  2. Step 2

Alternate the bread slices on top of the peanut-buttered bread slice, leaving a 1-inch space below the pumpernickel bread. Trim any extra white bread to fill in the gap below the pumpernickel bread. Don't worry about the rough edges--the bread will be trimmed later. Press the bread slices together. Trim the edges of the sandwich to make them even. Cut the sandwich in half to make two smaller sandwiches.

  3. Step 3

Spoon the melted chocolate into a small plastic resealable bag. Snip a very small corner from the bag. Pipe a few dots of chocolate on top of the Pirouette cookies. Add the "O" cereal as the keys of the flute. Pipe an oval of chocolate as the mouth piece and chill the cookies until set, about 5 minutes.

  4. Step 4

Using a paring knife, shape the celery and carrots into stick forms.

  5. Step 5

Assemble all the components in your bento box. Get creative and enjoy!
