Servings: 8

Prep Time: 40 min.

Cook Time: 7 min.

Ingredients

  • 16 large red grapes (Globe grapes)
  • 12 strawberries, stems removed
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • Red food coloring
  • 1 tbsp. sesame seeds (optional)

Supplies

  • 8 wooden chopsticks or wooden skewers
  • Wooden spoon

Directions

  1. Step 1

Line two cookie sheets with foil; set aside. Slide four grapes or three strawberries onto a wooden chopstick, making sure to cover one end with the fruit.

  2. Step 2

Combine the sugar and water in a medium heavy-bottomed saucepan. Stir with a wooden spoon. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stop stirring and continue boiling until a candy thermometer reaches 250°F or a drop of the sugar mixture into a bowl of ice water become hard, about 7 minutes.

  3. Step 3

Remove from the heat and stir in a few drops of red food coloring. Carefully dip the skewered fruit into the sugar to cover completely. Transfer dipped skewers to the prepared cookie sheets. Sprinkle with sesame seeds if desired. Repeat with the remaining fruit. Allow candies to cool completely before serving.

  4. Step 4

Insert each stick end into a container to serve.
